Typically the intent of the Christian crusaders from Europe was the "Holy Land" near Jerusalem. During this Crusade however, the soldiers attacked the Christian city of Constantinople. This was the final act separating the Roman Church from the Eastern Church. Thousands of people were killed and much of the city was destroyed.
