Mona Lisa Stolen


On August 21, 1911 the Mona Lisa was stolen off the wall of the Louvre. For two years the painting was missing and persumed lost forever. It was recovered when Louvre employee Vincenzo Peruggia tried to sell it to a museum in Florence Italy. Vincenzo's stated motivation was to return the painted in Italy where it belonged. He was call a hero by the Italian people and only served a few months in jail.
